| HOW TO DRAW WEREWOLF LEGS |
|
Another area of werewolves that can be tricky to get right. Digitgrade means that you walk on your digits (toes or fingers) just in case you were wondering. Anyhow, I'm comparing a human leg to a werewolf leg here. You will notice that a werewolf doesn't walk on it's feet, it walks on it's toes. The part they stand on is really just the length of their "foot", which is also called their haunches. From their, they must bend their legs some to stand correctly, so they will usually appear in a crouching position. |

Here is a sideview of the human leg in comparison to the werewolf leg. If you look carefully enough, you can see how the bones are structured in the werewolf leg. Just in case you can't really get your head around things though...

I've marked up this picture for you. This is so you can kind of compare the same parts here to that of a human leg.

Here is a quick 3/4th's view of the leg. The shape to remember when drawing the leg is an S, represented by the blue line in the picture.

Now for a quick lesson in posture. You know that, because of the design and shape of the legs, your werewolf will have to crouch over some. However, if you plan to do that, take note of several things first. Take this bad example here. The first thing you should notice is that the spine is perfectly vertical. If you had to duck down this way, your back would surely arch. Also, you cannot put the werewolf crouching on it's legs like this. If it had to stand like this, it would take a lot of effort, and the muscles in his legs would tear apart from the strain. The legs would only bend this much if he were sitting down or kneeling.

Here we have fairly good posture. The werewolf CAN stand erect, it's quite possible. It's really up to you to decide whether or not he stands or ducks down a bit. Just remember the S shape of the legs and you'll do fine.
